The Cathedral of Cusco.- The first point of visit is the Cathedral of Cusco, also known as the Church of the Holy Family.
After having visited the most important ruins that the city of Cusco offers, we went to the great temple of the sun, known as the Qoricancha or Golden Enclosure. The Qoricancha is located in the city of Cusco, a few meters from the Plaza de Weapons. This wonderful temple is considered one of the most sacred and impressive constructions that the Inca lords had. It is said that the temple housed a large select group of Inca priests, in charge of worshiping the moon and the sun god. It is said that when the conquerors arrived at the Qoricancha, the walls were covered with solid gold, and there were so many ornaments and jewels made of gold, that it took them weeks to melt all the gold to send them to Spain.
Then we go to the ruins of Sacsayhuaman, an imposing Inca construction, located north of the city. Sacsayhuaman is one of the most significant archaeological legacies that the city of Cusco has, due to its enormous construction, made up of huge stone blocks. It is said that the construction of Sacsayhuaman lasted more than 50 years that more than 20,000 men were used in the building. Later we will continue with our tour and we will go to the ruins of Q’enqo, cold caves carved by the Incas where you can see a small altar where it is believed the Incas mummified their dead. Then we will visit the ruins of Tambomachay, a beautiful place from where water emerges from a hill towards some sources built by the Incas, it is said that here the Inca emperor came to take his baths and perform religious water cults.
